The Cardiovascular Research Institute of Maastricht is one of the top institutes for translational cardiovascular research in Europe. It is among the world leaders in the fields of research into vascular and thrombotic disorders and AF as well as translational heart failure research. Concerning AF, the group led by Prof. Ulrich Schotten has developed a unique expertise with seminal contribution in the current understanding of abnormal electrical activations underlying activation from molecular level to whole animal. Their research has lead the development of a home- made monitoring devices for AF pattern diagnostics plus extended ECG recording in order to determine AF substrate properties.
